Question 2

Audience Response

We asked these group of teenagers a few questions about our documentary. We asked a class also doing the same project, this means they know what they are looking for. We first asked them what they would impove, this direct question would help us know the faults and ways in what we would redo if possible. One pupil said they would change the sound of interviews and some parts were too loud, this is a problem when people are watching as it can become distracting and unprofessional for the viewer. This is something we would change. On the other hand, a lot of people had something to say about the lack of voice over. All comments were positive, suggesting that if we had a voice over it could ruin the documentary, and not make sense. Another pupil said it makes the audience create their own opinion, without any influence of a voice over. This suggests not having a voice over was the best way to go because the documentary narrates itself. We also asked them about the mese en scene, as we found it important to concentrate on the visuals to make sure everything made sense, and wasn't out of the ordinary. One pupil said the costume of each character contributed well, portraying the band as relatable due to thier casual chothes. This is positve feeback as it suggests that peole will watch and enjoy due to the fact the people in it are relatable.

Audience Feedback

We questioned 20 people on the different aspects of our documentary.
We first asked them how informative our documentary was, did they follow it well?
18 people answered saying it was very informative, they followed the subject matter well and understood what was happening throughout.  We also asked them the same about the radio trailor, and the poster.

We asked people how enteraining they found our documentary, was it interesting, did they enjoy watching it? Or were they bored? The same goes for the poster and the radio trailer, was the poster well made, did it stand out? Was the trailer good, did you understand what was happeneing?

Next we asked them about the quality. How was the quality of our whole documentary and other media? Was the documentary, radio trailer, and poster of a proffesional quality? (Sound, Editing, Continuity?)

Was

Is the Documentary eye catching? Yes, no?

We then asked them if the documentary was sticking to the conventions of a real life documentary. Was it also of proffesional standard when completed, did it feel like a documentary? Was it sticking to what a documentary contains?

Initial Ideas

Initial Ideas.

For our Documentary, we will be focusing on the up coming band, The K's.

They are a popular unsigned band, and our documentary is on their struggle to become big.

We know all the members of the band well, and they are good friends. So this will make it easier to obtain footage and to be able to interview them.

I have been watching a documentary about people with tourettes who at the end of the documentary, have to perform a live gig. Without the Tourettes, our documentary is going to be quite similar. The K's are looking forward to a big gig in december, so we are filming and interviewing them about their struggle to become known to a wider audience.
We will be filming smaller gigs, and rehursals that and to be able to fit the documentary into a 30 minute time space, we will be using a lot of fast paced editing in between the more major scenes.

In the tourette documentary, the presenter and narrator are both the same person. The documentary uses both eliments of a participatory documentary, as well as a Voice Of God documentary.

Our documentary is aimed at the younger audience, or just people interested in this type of music.

Audience Research

This is a 17 year old female who we interviewed we filmed them answering our questionnaire as we could get some more in depth analysis of the questions and ask follow up questions we couldn’t ask in the questionnaire. our interviewee said that she thought that the band hand a interesting style she had not heard before and that the singer vocals were rely unique not not quite like any she had heard before. she also said she thinks they all have there own styles and appearance, this was a good piece of information to contain as we could appear to a lot of different people as each band member will appeal to different people. She mentioned Jamie was the favourite member of the band this information could be useful as we could do features on the main people in the band and go a bit more in depth to there story. From the information we got I felt like that people want to get to know the band more on a personal leval which could be quite good so we could show there home life and things they do out side the band and how it has effected there lives. This has helped us structure our documentary more and we now know more about what people want and know about the K’s.

This is a 18 year old male who is interested in indie alternative music, so a typical character of our target audience. The perpouse of the filming is so we could elaborate more on the questions and get more in-depth answers and question him on the reasons.
He mentioned that a bad could make it big in Warrington, due to the location and named a few places where they promote upocoming bands to give them a platform. Friars court was one, which is a place that we could investigate further, try and get the K's to preform there or an idea to interview the manager to get his view of upcoming bands/ the K's.
He also gave good response to their style and music, fairly interested in the band as a whole and would pay to see them live. He commented on their talent, saying they have incredible talent for their age, which is something we could investigate further in a question for interviews, or their unique selling point.
On the documentary itself, made it clear he would like to see content which inst obvious to him, to show more of an insight. Things like behind the scene, their live and how they balance things, how do they get the gigs, the practice and what they go through as a band. I feel this documentary will inform the viewer, tell them things they don't know about bands today. So these are things to keep in mind to expose relatable content.
He said this as an overall documentary has good topic of interest and something he would like to see. From this, i am more confident with the foundations of the content, ideas for the structure, and know that it should be relatable and interesting. I interviewed an 18 year old female, about our documentary. We used questions from our questionaire so that people could alabarate on the answers a bit more. Instead of someone answering just, ''Yes'', we can get them to expand on why the band are so interesting (or uninteresting) to the public. I asked her whether she thought the band could make it big, i asked this because our documentary is set on the 'make or break' gig at the end of the documentary, and I wanted to know if the band did actually have a wide fan base and what the public actually thought. If the public had a bad view on the K's we would put that in the documentary to give it two points of view. This individual thinks the band are good enough to make it big, and I asked her if she thought they were fashonable. I asked this because a lot of people are big on trends, and if a band look good then they will get a wider fan base with girls. If the band look unfashonable to their genre people may not take as much as an interest in them. I also asked what a documentary about music should contain. I asked this because if we can then gather more information and ideas when we are editing our documentary, and we will then know that members of the public will take a shine to this documentary because they, in a way, helped to design and edit our documentary.
